Ramps and Ramsons

ancestral plant relations and ethical harvest

for euro settlers on N. America / Turtle Island

Join us this season as we open to ancestral relations with plant kin and deepen into questions of ethical harvest, right relation to land, and embodying our values.

Join us for our next seasonal community gathering to meet plant kin and explore our living relationship to the lands of our ancestors and the lands we walk upon. Part plant meeting, part community dialogue, we will come together to consider how to continue to build relationships with the holy wild based on kinship and our liberatory values, rather than exploitation or furtherance of colonial destruction.

We will discuss personal and cultural relationships with ramps, one of the many alliums on N America. We will also meet Ramsons, the wild onion cousin to N American ramps - who was important culturally to our Celtic Isles ancestral lineages and also grows on N America.  How did our ancestors collaborate with these alliums? How might we follow in their footsteps? How might we proceed with cultivating relationships with these and other plants in alignment with our values?

This session is both info-share and community dialogue around how we cultivate relations with plants like ramps on Turtle Island as european descended settlers in diaspora. This session will be experiential as well, incorporating community dialogue, optional embodied practice, and personal reflection.

Bring your thoughts, your experiences, your journal and your curiosity!

who is facilitating this offer?

For folks new to me & my work –

my name is rowan (they/them) and I’m a qt herbalist, writer, researcher, big nerd and devotee to plant kin. I deeply believe in justice, radical community care, and embodying our values even under pressure.

The threads of my work include politicized ancestral reconnection for settlers on Turtle Island/N America, queer healing, ritual and devotion with the holy, navigating chronic illness, long-c & DJ, cultural traditions and ethnobotany, and more. I’m a white-bodied 3rd gen US person who comes from Irish, Lithuanian, Scottish & Sicilian lineages. I base my work off of my lived personal experiences, relationships with the holy wild, and deep research. I love researching and learning, and then sharing what I’ve learned with community.

thanks for being in community with me, for your support of my ongoing work, and for being a part of this broader weaving.
